New Fire Station Construction Uses MagneGrip

MagneGrip has recently installed exhaust removal and air purifications systems in new fire and rescue facilities across the country. As fire chiefs and architects become aware of increased cancer risk due to diesel exhaust and toxins in apparatus bay areas, MagneGrip Group has been specified for new emergency center construction projects.
MagneGrip Exhaust Removal and AirHAWK Air Purification Systems are built into new facilities as well as retrofit into existing structures. In new construction, general exhaust does not provide the level of protection fire chiefs are looking for. As a result, a point-of-source exhaust capture system is a necessity. It eliminates exposure to unhealthy diesel fumes, stops toxins from migrating to other rooms, and keeps the building cleaner. An exhaust removal system also allows indoor engine checks, in accordance with IMC building codes for operating vehicles inside a building. AirHAWK Air Purification Systems keep air clean in turn out rooms.
Some of the recently completed new fire station construction projects with MagneGrip equipment include:
New Philadelphia (OH) Fire Department
Completed in June 2017, MagneGrip worked with Ed McCall, McCall Sharp Architecture, to design a Straight Suction Rail (SSR) system in the bay area and AirHAWK Air Purification System in the turnout room.
Wooster (OH) Safety Center
Architects Richard L. Bowen & Associates Inc. designed the new police and fire facility for drive-through apparatus. The Straight Suction Rail (SSR) system was the fourth installation with the city by MagneGrip Group.
Cardinal Joint Fire District (Canfield, OH)
In Canfield, Ohio MagneGrip Group worked with CJL Engineering on a new fire station. This was the third installation within the fire district; it included Straight Suction Rail (SSR) and Sliding Flexhose Track (SFT). SFT – or “slinky hose” -- is a no loop, expandable, horizontal system that travels all the way to the door.
Orange Village (OH) Fire Department
MagneGrip initially installed an exhaust removal system in the Pinecrest EMS headquarters 10 years ago. A new satellite station is scheduled to open in 2018 based on a design by WHS Engineering incorporating MagneGrip’s Sliding Flexhose Track system.
Concord Township (OH) Fire and EMS
In Delaware County, Mull & Weithman Architects, Inc. designed an emergency services station to replace a facility damaged by a storm. As a way to save money and maximize investment, much of the MagneGrip equipment from the former building was used in the new facility.
Berea (KY) Municipal Fire and Safety Building
Integrity/Architecture incorporated Straight Suction Rail (SSR) into the design for the new building.
In Texas, MagneGrip worked with several architects on new facilities located across the state. Wiginton Hooker Jeffry Architects designed Killeen (TX) Fire Department. Straight Suction Rail (SSR) and Sliding Flexhose Track (SFT) were installed. Parkhill Smith & Cooper designed Midland (TX) Fire Department #6, using MagneGrip’s Straight Suction Rail (SSR) system. McKinney (TX) Fire Department #9 was designed by Conduit Architecture + Design.
MagneGrip’s Straight Suction Rail (SSR) exhaust removal system was used in other noteworthy new construction facilities including Lockport Township (IL) Fire Protection District, FGM Architects; Donalsonville (GA) Fire Department, Donofro Architects; Oklahoma City (OK) Fire Department #21 and #23, Kirkpatrick Architecture Studio, Clemson (SC) Fire & EMS, MESCO Building Solutions; Bristol (TN) Fire Rescue #5, Thompson & Litton (Engineers, Architects, Surveyors).
An exhaust removal is typically installed at the end of an 18-month construction process. Once an exhaust removal system is selected, MagneGrip works with the architect during the building design phase. MagneGrip designs the exhaust removal system, provides CAD drawings, as well as project description and specifications to incorporate into bid documents.
